Lola: Food and Beverage team member completing Hospitality Team member level 2 apprenticeship
Lola joined our head office team straight from school and is enjoying working in our staff members café. She wanted to do an apprenticeship rather than go to college so she could learn on the job and is now an integral part of the team.
Why did you first choose to apply for an apprenticeship?
I first chose to apply for an apprenticeship as there were more options of courses to do, as I couldn’t find one suited to me at college. Also, it’s a great opportunity to earn and learn.
Best thing about the apprenticeship?
I get lots of opportunities to progress with my baking skills as I make most of the cakes and bakes for the counter and I have gained a wealth of knowledge from having training with the chefs who have taught me various new baking tips and tricks.
Any challenges?
As time goes on, we’ve got a lot busier so I have had to learn to keep up with the rush and manage my time well. In addition to this, it has been a challenge keeping on target with my apprenticeship learning after having time off, but now I’m all up to date and got a distinction in my mocks!
Have you done anything that you didn’t expect whilst on your apprenticeship?
As the head office café had a shut down day for a deep clean, we went on a team day out to Lacock Village and got to tour the property, café and kitchen as well as having lunch out altogether.
What are your plans for the future?
I’d love to progress further within my baking and potentially become a pastry chef, cooking teacher or have my own bakes and brunch café.
Any advice for anyone thinking of doing an apprenticeship?
Just go for it! It’s the best thing I’ve done, it's improved my confidence, knowledge and skills, the National Trust pay good money and its great hours and benefits!
